During World War II, the Wilmes-Patz family hid not only one of their sons, Michel Wilmes, but also two other draft dodgers: Joseph Wagener, born August 28th, 1924, in Heinerscheid, and François Eberhard, born June 3rd, 1923, in Luxembourg City. The family’s eldest son had joined the Resistance in Belgium, and their daughter, Marguerite Wilmes, helped her parents keep the people in hiding safe from discovery.
One of the draft dodgers hidden in the house, Joseph Tun Wagener, later fought as a volunteer in the first contingent of the Korean War. Among other things, he was motivated by a desire to spare the Koreans the experiences that the Luxembourgers had to endure during World War II.

They were Michel Wilmes, the son of the house, Joseph Wagener from Heinerscheid, and François Eberhard from Neudorf.
This plaque is intended to honor them, as well as all draft dodgers and the families who sheltered young people during the occupation.
